Our Animation Story

Our focus statement which is "Friend solves conflict" tells our story because Maceo, Seth and Ehu go to Florida for a video competition. Ehu and Maceo get into a fight and Seth helps them stop fighting and solve the problem. The main problem in the story was when 2 of the teammates could not get along and finish work because they would argue. The team is trying to defeat the all time champion from the STN competition so they need to hurry and make their invention better so they can win 1st place.
The lesson that the audience will learn is if you ever get into a fight about something, always remember that arguing will not solve any problem. In our animation movie, Maceo and Ehu get into a fight and Ehu decides to leave Florida and go back home. Then Seth tries to help solve the conflict so that Ehu will change her mind and come back to Florida to help the team. If you use all the time that you have arguing then you will not get things done.

Our best moment as a team was when we split up all of the work to finish the scenes. Our team got a lot of the work done when we were working hard and not playing around. We used all of the time Mr. Sanderl could possibly give us to finish our animation movie so we could fix any little mistakes and edit it to make it better. Our worst moments as a team was when we would talk and not finish filming the scenes that needed to be done. In the end when our class watched all of the teams animation videos, they voted on our characters/sets/props and creativity/originality/execution.

Typography Images

Typography is the style and appearance of printed matter. It can be used with images to make an impact because the words can be used to explain what the subject in the image means. Typography can be used with images to make a lasting impact because the words you use in the image can mean something or tell a story by reading it.

This week, we were assigned by Mr. Sanderl to create a Typography image. My biggest challenge during this Typography project was getting used to all the steps in order to create the final product. I watched the tutorial videos and learned more about the effects you can use to make your image better. Watching the tutorial helped me to understand step-by-step how to create a great overall Typography image.

My first visual example on the left is of Steve Jobs an innovator. I used an image of him to create my first Typography image. I copy and pasted a paragraph of text from Wikipedia that was about him and added it to the image, my second picture on the right is of Mr. Rohrs, a P.E. teacher at Kapaa Middle School. We took a close up picture of his face and part of his shoulders. for the text, I typed words that described him then turned it into a stamp to add to the image. I used orange, green and purple color for the final effect on the image. My last picture is a portrait of me and this was my favorite out of all the examples I did because it was very fun creating this final image, I love the contrast of colors in my image and even though it was a little difficult during the process of it I am happy with my final image.

Double Exposed Portraits

Portrait Photography is a photo of a person or a group of people that shows the expression or personality of the subject. This can relate to profile view because its an outline of someones face as seen from one side. It can also relate to silhouetting because its an image of a person or object represented as a solid shape or singular color usually black and its edges match the outline of the subject.

Double Exposures are created in Photoshop by choosing one profile photo of someone and one or more "texture" images. Then go to Photoshop and upload the pictures by clicking on "file", "scripts", "load files into stack". Once the pictures are uploaded, start with the profile image and whiten the back round. You can create as many layers as you want by clicking on "layer", "new adjustment layer" and then you can choose different types of effects.I would want to make a double exposure because when the two pictures blend together it creates an amazing overall image.

The symbolism in my two visual examples are boxing because it helps me to become stronger and have more self defense to protect myself. Boxing is also a fun outside of school activity to do. I also choose art because I love to draw in my free time and learn new art designs and techniques. Art teaches risk taking and learning to be creative in your drawings.

HDR Photography

HDR Photography is a method that aims to add more of a dynamic range to photographs, which is the ratio of light to dark photos. HDR uses three photos, taken in different exposures. You can use an image editing software and put the images together to highlight the best parts of the photo. I like HDR Photography because you are able to see the different exposures after taking a picture.

The steps on how to create an HDR image is to take 7 pictures starting at a really low exposure to a high exposure compensation, then go to photoshop and press edit and merge to HDR pro, and upload your pictures. Automatic HDR is different because when you press HDR on a mobile device then you just press on the button and it will take one HDR picture but on a digital camera you can take many HDR pictures at different exposure compensation.

My thought process behind taking the landscape picture below was to find a good place that had a great view and not much movement in the photo. Then when I took the experiment profile picture I wanted to have a nice back round instead of taking the picture in front of a wall and find a person who could keep a straight face for 20 seconds.

Movie Trailer Critique

In our G.T. class, we were assigned to do a movie trailer as well as a movie poster. The members of my team were Leleaka Anakalea, Sydney Nice and Wailana Makepa. Our movie trailer is called Letters to John and was about a girl named Andrea, 17 years old who is having a great time during her High School year but then her boyfriend suddenly goes missing for 6 months. Andrea searches for days and is experiencing multiple flashbacks of her love. I contributed to this movie trailer by help filming.

The requirements for this movie trailer project were, it needed to be between a minute and thirty seconds and two minutes and thirty seconds, we needed to include a movie poster, at least five scenes, text layovers, foley effects, dialogue, and voice acting. Our team completed all of the requirements.

During the class critique, our classmates rated our movie trailer on three things, audience, creativity, and requirements. For the "audience" category, most of my classmates voted on satisfactory, "creativity" and "requirements" was above and beyond. I agree with the results because we completed all of the requirements. In the end, I learned that when making a movie trailer you need to be organized, have everything planned out and watch what you have filmed incase yo need to film again.

Visual Literacy

In 7th period, we were assigned by Mrs. Sanderl to choose a word and fold pages of a book.  This project took a while to finish because I had to restart twice. Its a little hard at first but once you get used to doing it then it becomes easier. This project is called book folding which was created by Isaac Salazar and he has been creating them since 2009. Visual Literacy is the ability to interpret the word and present it into the form of an image. This assignment is an example of visual literacy because we folded pages into a word and people can try to figure out the meaning.

I did one book and chose the word "Art" because I love to do different types of artwork and the font matched because its simple. I think that the font made the word Art stand out because the letters are bold and easy to read when you look at it. For the book, I folded about 115 pages.

Overall, I believe that my book turned out pretty good. I had to restart 2 times and on my 3rd try, it finally turned out the way I wanted it to look like. At first, I was a little frustrated because I would forget to mark where I left off.  If I were to do this project again, I would chose the word "Create" with a cursive font.

Movie Poster Promo

In G.T. class we were assigned to create a movie trailer and movie poster. Our team decided to name the movie trailer "Letters to John". The main characters in the poster is Andrea(Leleaka Anakalea) and John(Gabriel Sifuentes) her boyfriend. In the movie poster, Andrea and John are sitting down on the dock and that is one of their favorite places together.

The movie poster includes the movie title, reviews, character names and media production. We chose to name the movie trailer, "Letters to John" because its about a girl named Andrea and she is stranded in her own perfect world but suddenly, her boyfriend John goes missing. Andrea receives a letter from John saying that he is okay, after that, Andrea decides to write a letters to John to help him with his depression. The production company is called Dreamworks and I added reviews from movie critics to the movie poster. Kerning is used to adjust the spacing between letters. Kerning is very helpful to anything that includes text. If the font of your text make the letters overlap each other, then you can use kerning to space them out.

The layers and effects that I used in my poster had a big impact on my final product. I made the background brighter with a blurred effect. I made the outline of Leleaka and Gabe have an outer glow effect so they would stand out more. For the text in the poster, I chose to go with brown and white because those were the two colors that stood out the most with the blurred background.
